The application of phycocyanin in laser therapy of two cancer cell lines was conducted both in vivo and in vitro. Human colon cancer HR8348 cells were incubated with 100ug,50ug and 25ug of phycocyanin,and subsequently irradiated with copper vaporu laser with density of 12 J/cm2 and wavelength of 630 nm. The survival rate thus assessed with MTT assay were 22. 2%, 37. 6% and 89. 7%, exhibiting a linear dose response. Mice transplanted with S180 cells were either injected with 2 mg or orally taken with 20 mg of phycocyanin. After irradiated with copper vapour laser for 15 days,the effective curing rates were 58% and 53% with statistical significance compared with their controls ( P =0. 007). Both in vivo and in vitro test proved that phycocyanin was of photo sensitivity, no toxicity and no adverse effect. Therefore,phycocyanin may be explored as a refined photo sensitizer used for cancer laser therapy. |
