English Summary:
Objective This study was aimed to analyze the content characteristics of mineral elements in six marine-derived shell-based traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs) and explore the correlation between mineral elements and species. Methods The mineral element content of Meretricis concha cyclinae concha, Haliotidis concha, Ostreae concha, Sepiae endoconcha, Margaritifera concha, and Arcae concha was determined via inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Correlation analysis, principal component analysis (PCA), and clustering analysis were applied for a comprehensive evaluation of the data. Results A total of 46 mineral elements were identified, with calcium (Ca) being the most abundant. Significant differences (P < 0.05) in the concentrations of 12 mineral elements were observed among the six shell-based TCMs. The principal component analysis (PCA) results indicated cobalt (Co), lithium (Li), sodium (Na), chromium (Cr), niobium (Nb), manganese (Mn), molybdenum (Mo), and magnesium (Mg) as the key elements distinguishing the six species. Further analysis of the physiological roles of these differential mineral elements indicated a close correlation between the pharmacological effects of shell-based TCMs and the distribution of their mineral element content. Conclusion This study provides a comprehensive investigation of the mineral element content, correlations, and differences among shell-based TCMs, offering scientific evidence for their pharmacological evaluation and quality standard formulation.
